November 01, 2007 Immeasurable Love I've been silent these past weeks, partly due to the examinations but also partly due to my attempt to re-convene 'audiences' with Jehovah God nightly. It's been good, but this song by Casting Crowns perfectly encapsulated what the daily struggle of a Christian entails. Casting Crowns - East to West Here I am Lord and I'm drowning In your sea of forgetfulness The chains of yesterday surround me I yearn for peace and rest I don't want to end up where You found me And it echoes in my mind Keeps me awake tonight I know You've cast my sins as far As the East is from the West And I stand before You now As though I've never sinned but today I feel like I'm just one mistake away From You leaving me this way Jesus can You show me Just how far the East is from the West? Cause I can't bear to see the man I've been Come rising up in me again In the arms of Your mercy I find rest Cause You know just how far the East is from the West From one scarred Hand to the other. I start the day the war begins Endless reminding of my Sin Time and time again Your truth is drowned out by the storm I'm in Today I feel like I'm just one mistake away From You leaving me this way Jesus can You show me Just how far the East is from the West? Cause I can't bear to see the man I've been Come rising up in me again In the arms of Your mercy I find rest Cause You know just how far the East is from the West From one scarred Hand to the other. I know You've washed me white Turned my darkness into light I need Your peace to get me through To get me through this night I can't live by what I feel But by the Truth your Word reveals I'm not holding on to You But You're holding on to me You're holding on to me Jesus, You know just how far The East is from the West I don't have to see the man I've been Come rising up in me again In the arms of Your mercy I find rest Cause You know just how far the East is from the West From one scarred Hand to the other. Just how far, the East is from the West From one scarred Hand to the other. "As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us." - Psalms 103:12 Traveller fell apart at 2:41 PM
September 30, 2007 Woeful Epiphanies What brings about this search for the Truth? A desperate need so finely ingrained within us that even our attempts to deny the Truth have resulted in a further confirmation of this desperate searching. Who determines where we go or stay? Whether we live or die? What is the human will? Where do we go after we leave this Earth? Is God theistic or deistic? Does God still speak to us directly in modern times? All pertinent questions, but answers deemed grey by humanity's greatest minds. I've been feeling the strain, like I'm fighting an upward and insurmountable war against those who call themselves Christians like us. I'll be quick to affirm that I'm not about to pass judgement on whether or not their beliefs are Gospel-truth, seeing as I am human and my judgements merely limited. But what I strongly believe is that everything that is preached from the pulpit or practiced in the pews can be corroborated with the Bible, something which Charismatics will be hard-pressed to do. Show me where in the Bible it says that tongues will be spoken in present day! Demonstrate the powers of 'prophecy' that they claim have touched the lives of millions? All I can recall is the strong warnings of God against this sort of behaviour found in Deuteronomy 18:10, "There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch." Words so strongly against such practices but yet, taken so lightly in a Charismatic movement which seeks to discredit the Old Testament. A knowledgeable and outspoken Charismatic (very rare, I assure you) debated with me as to the relevance of the Old Testament Law to this age of grace. And I found it amusing that a certain big church in Singapore actually preaches that the Ten Commandments are no longer relevant in our day and age. What heresy! I constantly struggle and do my best to plant the seed of Truth within the hearts of these people, but what a constant struggle it has been! For "There is a way that seemeth right unto a man; but the end thereof are ways of death. - Proverbs 16:25" This age of Charismatism is a disease spreading across the entire spectrum of Christianity, and yet it is something that we as Fundamental Christians cannot ignore. For if we allow our faith to be contaminated by the words of heresies and untruths, then we run the risk of losing the solidarity of our Message forever. In the meantime, I will pray in fervent hope for these lost souls. Sola Fide, Sola Scriptura, Sola Christus, Sola Gratia, Sola Deo Gloria. Traveller fell apart at 2:17 AM
August 06, 2007 Irresistible Grace How does one go through life resisting infinite grace when it is handed on a silver platter? How do scientists look at the inner workings of nature and conclude an evolutionary thesis? How do people use the Proverbs found in the Bible everyday and not accede to them? Shocking, but an increasingly astounding fact. Simply put, the veil which continues to cloud the vision of the pre-believers continues to grow, and it has begun now to intrude on sacred ground of the Church. Richard Dawkins, in publishing his 'well-documented' book The God Delusion has effectively opened up a can of worms within the religious community, or has he? Perhaps all he's managed to accomplish is to establish himself as the god of atheism; perhaps all he's able to muster up in the midst of those biting and cynical comments are the stirrings of even more violence and dissent. I find it amusing when atheists all over quote him as if he is some sort of reference book for Atheism 101. For every Richard Dawkins, however, there will be a Charles Spurgeon. Both intellectuals in their own right and both vehement and fervent in their logical rationalising of their beliefs. However, as light and darkness cannot mix, so too are their arguments. One must be right, and the other wrong. The bitter nature of these philosophical debates have raged on since Aristotle, Plato and Socrates. Such is the nature of Man, an eternal desire for Truth and Meaning in Existence; and such is the origin of such debates. Perhaps only when Post-Modernism drops its mind-numbing rhetoric and influence over vast portions of society, will we see a revival in faith and spirituality. Until then, all we can place our hopes in, is Irresistible Grace. "Life is not what I thought it was, twenty-four hours ago. Still, I'm singing 'Spirit take me up in arms with You." June 23, 2007 The Meaning of Everything What is life about? Quintessentially the question every human being, religion and science has been trying to answer since the dawn of time. Some have defined it as merely time moving in circular motions, creating parallel universes and unchangeable destiny. Some see it more in the supernatural realm and attempt to fuse the supernatural with the physical. Will we, however, ever find the true meaning of life through our futile attempts? Or are we destined, as a race, to forever bicker and ponder over this unfathomable question? There are answers, most definitely; as there are to most things in life. As in morality, there is always black and white but hardly grey; so too, are there answers to life, not mere shadows in the wind. But where are those answers? The search for truth has all too often led us into even more confusion and obtusion. The answers we seek are often so simple, we daren't believe it. But they are there. Simple truths for daily living so finely woven and threaded into a piece of literature which encompasses the generations and transforms lives. The truths expounded are meted out with startling clarity, something clearly missing from the curse of relativism we all face in today's world. And yet, we all say we need more meaning. We say that the Word is but a facade of our inner hallucinations. Richard Dawkins claims that religion is senseless, irrational and dangerous. But I would say that atheism is empty, illogical and oh, so soul-less. Meaning is always there, it's just a matter of opening your mind to it. To the Creator God. May 26, 2007 Encompassing Love And there I was, the entire tide of the world's torrents raging against my solitary figure. It was hard not to shed a tear, hard not to buckle and succumb. And just as I felt my own strength begin to waver, a Hand propped me up from behind; not only straightening my figure but also recharging my tired disposition. You will get through this Joel, and you will come out all the stronger. Yes I will, Lord. Yes, I will. Brian Littrell - Over My Head I tried to figure it out Time and time again and time again I guess there’s just some things I’ll never understand ‘Cause Your ways aren’t our ways But deep down in my soul, down in my soul There is one thing I know that I know I’m in over my head Right where I wanna be I’m so lost within Your love The love that always covers me So high, so deep, so wide A strong and cleansing tide My soul has found a place to rest I’m in over my head I’ve been holding on Now I’m letting go, just letting go Gonna let Your love carry me away I don’t know where I’m going But I’m surrounded by the truth And I can feel the current pulling me Deeper into You You see me for who I am You did reach out Your hand You made me understand That Your love has always covered me "I've been holding on and now I'm letting go; letting Your love carry me away." May 20, 2007 Finding Contentment I haven't been happy in a long while, that much I admit. If you asked me when was the last time I felt truly at bliss, at peace, I'd say it's been far too long since that instance for me to recall off-hand. Simply put, I've had trouble finding simple contentment in the smaller things in life and all I've done is focus on the shortcomings and adversities I've had to overcome. But life is like that for everyone else, we all have our personal struggles and battles to wage, and similarly we all have our little things in life to be content about. I'm trying my best now to find contentment in the little things in life, in aspects that I've been blessed by God. Despite the worries and uncertainty about my future love life, I know I have a wonderful family to fall back on. I failed to see that in the past, and taking that point of view seems so liberating now. I worried about not earning enough to be able to call myself successful but now I realise, money really isn't everything if you don't have true contentment and completeness from within. Some say that completeness from within doesn't necessarily have to come from above, it can be found in the things around us. I fail to see this point. Deep inside every human soul, is a void which can only be filled by the Creator God and any other attempt to suggest otherwise falls far short. All the struggles, pursuits of fame, power and wealth are merely attempts to fill that void in with worldly condiments; and like all things worldly, are destined to moth and rust in the end. How much better is it to put our trust in things above, where moth and rust do not destroy, where thieves do not break in to steal? Equally, how much better is it to place our love above rather than on humans who will fail us from time to time. Worldly love isn't that important if you see it from the grand scheme of things. We'd do well to realise that, and to stop building a shrine to commemorate this creation of God's. "I wear the pain and grin, I play the part again. So everyone will see me the way that I see them." April 01, 2007 Maybe, just maybe. I thought about something today and it wasn't something very nice. Granted, it's far-fetched at this point and yet, its not unconceivable. But I wonder, just wonder if it's God trying to tell me the answer to the question that I've been asking all this while. I need confirmation, desperately. Because not knowing God's will is something Man has been contending with for all of eternity and yet, we often never know till it hits us. Does it really have to be that way this time? I hope not, God. Because this answer may affect whether I stay or go. Because this answer may change the way the next ten years pans out for me. Because I'm at the crossroads of two very different paths and at the moment, there's no telling the difference. Jason Mraz - You And I Both Was it You who spoke the words That things would happen but not to me All things are gonna happen naturally Oh, taking Your advice and I'm looking on the bright side And balancing the whole thing Oh, but at often times those words get tangled up in lines And the bright light turns to night Oh, until the dawn it brings Another day to sing about the magic that was you and me Cause you and I both loved What you and I spoke of and others just read of Others only read of the love Oh, the love that I love Love-ah-love See, I'm all about them words Over numbers, unencumbered numbered words Hundreds of pages, pages, pages for words More words than I had ever heard And I feel so alive Cause you and I both loved What you and I spoke of And others just read of And if you could see me now Oh love, love, you and I, you and I Not so little, you and I anymore Mmm hmm And with this silence brings a moral story More importantly evolving Is the glory of a boy Cause you and I both loved What you and I spoke of And others just read of And if you could see me now Well then im almost finally out of, finally ou-ou-out of Finally de de de de de de de, well I'm almost finally, finally Well, I am free, oh I'm free And it's okay If you had to go away Oh, just remember the telephones Well, they're working in both ways But if I never, ever hear them ring If nothing else I'll think the bells inside have finally found you someone else And that's okay Traveller fell apart at 2:20 AM
March 29, 2007 The Voice of Truth This song really speaks to me, how it speaks about unshakeable faith, how God is always in control. Amen, He is. Casting Crowns - Voice of Truth Oh what I would do to have The kind of faith it takes To climb out of this boat I'm in Onto the crashing waves To step out of my comfort zone Into the realm of the unknown where Jesus is And He's holding out His hand But the waves are calling out my name And they laugh at me Reminding me of all the times I've tried before and failed The waves they keep on telling me Time and time again. "Boy, you'll never win!" "You'll never win!" Chorus: But the voice of truth tells me a different story The voice of truth says, "Do not be afraid!" The voice of truth says, "This is for My glory" Out of all the voices calling out to me I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth Oh what I would do to have The kind of strength it takes to stand before a giant With just a sling and a stone Surrounded by the sound of a thousand warriors Shaking in their armor Wishing they'd have had the strength to stand But the giant's calling out my name And he laughs at me Reminding me of all the times I've tried before and failed The giant keeps on telling me Time and time again. "Boy you'll never win!" "You'll never win!" But the stone was just the right size To put the giant on the ground And the waves they don't seem so high From on top of them lookin' down I will soar with the wings of eagles When I stop and listen to the sound of Jesus Singing over me I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth Labels: YHWH Traveller fell apart at 12:00 PM
